Journalist Christoforos Kontaxisis has passed away at the age of 94. The Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers (ESHEA) announced his death, honoring his long and significant career in print and public broadcasting.
Born in 1932 in Vrondamas, Lakonia, Kontaxisis studied law at the University of Athens. He began his journalistic career in 1964 at the newspaper ‘To Vima’ as a sports editor before transitioning into parliamentary and political reporting. His professional history includes work with ‘Apogevmatini’, ‘Makedonia’, and the magazine ‘Tachydromos’.
Kontaxisis joined public broadcasting in 1974, where he spent the majority of his career. He served as the director of the radio station ERA 1 and, from 1982, as the news director for ERT-2. He is notably credited with creating the program ‘ERT-2 stí Vouli’, which focused on parliamentary activities.
ESHEA described him as a colleague with ‘many abilities and rich experience’ who served with ethics and professionalism. A political funeral will be held on Thursday, October 1, at the Kaisariani Cemetery, followed by a farewell service at the Rit zona Crematorium.
