Journalist Gligorijević calls for political lustration in Serbia
Journalist Jovana Gligorijević, from the weekly Vreme, has addressed the concept of lustration in Serbia, stating that a societal consensus on its definition is necessary before it can be effectively implemented.
Gligorijević defines lustration as the prohibition of public activity for individuals who, while not necessarily breaking criminal laws, have violated moral standards, good practices, or customs in their public roles. She noted that after 2000, a lack of political will and the presence of double standards made lustration impossible.
Regarding political figures who switch sides, Gligorijević argues that such 'defectors' should not always be forgiven. She specifically cited Branko Ružić, noting his high-level position as Minister of Education during periods of significant social crisis and his history within the SPS, suggesting he was a candidate for lustration in previous attempts.
