Journalist János Kele threatened following Fradiváros subsidy investigation
Journalist János Kele has reportedly received threats from Ferencváros ultras following his investigations into the misuse of state funds. The controversy stems from the ‘Fradiváros’ project, for which the Hungarian state provided approximately 25 billion HUF in subsidies between 2016 and 2017 for the development of the Népliget sports complex.
The Ministry of Interior recently announced it is filing a report with the National Tax and Customs Administration regarding the project. Investigations suggest potential budgetary fraud, breach of trust, abuse of office, and the use of false private documents, noting that the planned infrastructure was never built despite the funding. Reports indicate a significant portion of the funds was transferred to FTC Labdarúgó Zrt., with 11.2 billion HUF reportedly used to acquire player rights.
In response to the investigation, supporters have targeted Kele. On social media, the Grüne Jugend Ferencváros page shared images of a banner displayed during a match that read, ‘Kele Jani, start worrying.’ Kele has declined to comment publicly on the specific threats.
