Journalist and broadcaster João Garcia has died at the age of 77. A prominent figure in Rio Grande do Sul sports journalism, Garcia served as the president of the Associação dos Cronistas Esportivos Gaúchos (ACEG).
His career spanned several decades, including significant work with Grupo RBS during the 1970s and 1980s, as well as roles at various radio stations such as Difusora, Sucesso, Guaíba, and Bandeirantes. While he began his career as a political reporter in Brasília, he became widely recognized for his sports commentary and general journalism.
In recent months, Garcia had been managing health issues related to atherosclerosis, which required surgical procedures. His death followed a fall resulting from physical weakness. ACEG released a statement honoring his legacy, noting his dedication to the professional valuation and strengthening of sports chroniclers.
