Journalist João Saldanha dies at 64 in Bahia
Brazilian journalist João Saldanha, 64, died in the early hours of Monday, 27th. The death was announced by the Sindicato dos Jornalistas Profissionais no Estado da Bahia (Sinjorba), which expressed condolences to his family and friends. No cause of death or funeral details have been released.
Saldanha was born in Salvador and earned a journalism degree from the former Escola de Biblioteconomia e Comunicação (EBC) of the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), beginning his studies in 1980. He built a career at several media outlets, starting at the newspaper A Tarde where he worked in the revision department and later on the Lazer & Informação section, and also serving as a reporter for Tribuna da Bahia. He acted as press officer for the Teatro Castro Alves and the CineFuturo International Cinema and Audiovisual Seminar, and later provided independent communication services for numerous cultural productions in Bahia. A colleague, journalist Adalberto Meireles, remembered him as a “fine observer of human relations, always with ironic and sharp verve.”
