Journalist Judith Nyuke killed by Geo Pomona truck in Harare

Freelance journalist Judith Nyuke, 39, died on Saturday after being struck by a Geo Pomona waste collection truck in Harare. The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. along Harare Drive near Art Farm in Pomona.

Nyuke was a specialist court reporter who had previously worked with H-Metro and 263Chat. The Zimbabwe Republic Police are currently investigating the fatal road traffic accident.

Geo Pomona Waste Management, a company contracted by the City of Harare, confirmed that one of its trucks was involved. The company expressed its condolences to the family and the media community, stating it has initiated an internal review and is cooperating fully with authorities.

The incident follows a recent directive from Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe, who ordered the Bulawayo City Council to sign an agreement with Geo Pomona within one week to begin waste collection and landfill operations in that city.
