Argentina: Caregiver arrested for abusing 100-year-old woman

Argentine journalist Marcela Coronel has denounced the physical and verbal abuse of her 100-year-old mother, Berta, by her caregiver, Norma Noemí Sandín. The abuse was discovered after the family reviewed security camera footage, which captured Sandín hitting, pushing, and verbally insulting the elderly woman.

Berta, who uses a wheelchair and suffers from advanced dementia, was in a highly vulnerable state during the incidents. The footage revealed Sandín shouting insults regarding the woman's hygiene and physically mishandling her while dressing or moving her. The discovery was made by Coronel's sister, who alerted the family via a group chat after witnessing the recordings.

Following a formal police report, Sandín, 57, was detained by the City Police and charged with injuries and threats. Coronel confirmed that her mother underwent medical examinations at the Italiano hospital and is currently in stable condition. The family has sought legal action to ensure the perpetrator faces justice.
