Journalist Melina Morquecho found dead in Poza Rica
Journalist, writer, and cultural promoter Melina López Muñoz, known professionally as Melina Morquecho, was found dead in her residence in the Santa Emilia neighborhood of Poza Rica, Veracruz.
Preliminary forensic investigations by the Veracruz State Attorney General's Office (FGE) determined the cause of death for the 60-year-old communicator was accidental asphyxiation by suffocation. Authorities reported no signs of violence, disorder, or evidence of third-party involvement at the scene. While initial findings suggest a domestic accident, an investigation remains open to formally rule out other hypotheses.
Morquecho had a career spanning over two decades, focusing on social issues, local history, culture, and women's rights. She contributed to prominent regional media such as El Dictamen and the now-defunct El Norte, and directed the literary supplement Versatile for La Opinión de Poza Rica.
