Journalist Moussa Kaka disappears in Niger
Moussa Kaka, the director of the private television station Radio Télévision Saraounia (RTS), has disappeared in Niamey, Niger. According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Kaka left his office on the evening of August 31 but never arrived at his residence.
Kaka is a prominent media figure who previously served as a correspondent for RFI until 2023. His disappearance occurs amid heightened political and security tensions in Niger, following recent unrest in the capital. RSF has called for an immediate investigation by Nigerien authorities to locate the journalist and clarify the circumstances of his disappearance.
The incident follows a period of increased pressure on media professionals in the country. Since 2023, the military junta governing Niger has faced accusations from non-governmental organizations regarding the restriction of press freedoms. Kaka had previously faced legal issues in November 2025, when he was detained on charges of disclosing documents that could disturb public order.
