Istanbul authorities launch money laundering probe involving Sarıgül family

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a large-scale investigation into money laundering involving companies in Turkey and abroad. The probe was initiated following complaints from two German citizens, K. P. and M. B., who allege they were used as vehicles for illicit financial transactions.

Key allegations include an 80 million euro contract, 100 million euros in wire transfers, and a promise to move a 1 billion euro fund abroad using public influence and credit. Additionally, a boat sale worth 1.5 million euros is under scrutiny. The investigation also involves allegations of threats made against the complainants after they shared information with journalist Murat Ağırel.

As a result of the operation, six individuals have been detained or issued arrest warrants, including journalist Murat Ağırel, Aylin Kotil, Ömer Sarıgül, and Emir Sarıgül. Mustafa Sarıgül, a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, has been referred to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for separate evaluation due to parliamentary immunity. Mustafa Sarıgül has denied the allegations, describing the matter as a commercial business dispute.
