Journalist Ramón Tolentino reports threats from prison video call

Journalist Ramón Tolentino has reported receiving threats related to his investigative work. He claimed that a video call was made to him from the La Parra penitentiary center, during which a supposed reward was mentioned for actions against him. Tolentino identified David Medina Paredes, also known as “Guindo,” as the individual who allegedly made the call. The communicator stated that the conversation was recorded and intends to make the material public.

Tolentino further linked Medina Paredes to a group known as “Los Fantasmas” and called for intervention from the authorities. In response to these developments, communicator Rodolfo Santo Méndez expressed respect for Tolentino, warning that the journalist is “playing with his life” every time he makes a report. Méndez criticized the national situation, suggesting that crime and insecurity serve as profitable businesses for certain powerful interests and questioning how criminal groups acquire high-quality weaponry and supplies.
