Journalist Spyros Charitatos alleges pressure from Education Minister's associate

Journalist Spyros Charitatos has leveled serious allegations against an associate of Greek Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki. During an appearance on the program ‘Kathares Kouventes’ on the OPEN television station, Charitatos claimed that an associate of the Minister contacted a regulatory body responsible for media to request his dismissal or the restriction of his professional activities.

Charitatos stated that the attempt was intended to silence his journalistic criticism. He has demanded an apology from the individual involved and warned that if an apology is not issued, he will disclose the identity of the institution contacted and the specific details of the request in the coming days.

The opposition party, Democrats, led by Stefanos Kasselakis, responded to the allegations, describing the incident as an extremely serious matter. The party characterized the alleged attempt to restrict journalistic work as an affront to press freedom and a violation of democratic principles, calling on Minister Zacharaki to address the situation publicly.
