Journalist Thalita Tavares dies at 46 after cancer battle

Journalist Thalita Tavares Caturelli Passoni, a former presenter for Globo Esporte Tocantins, has died at the age of 46. She passed away in Santa Catarina, where she resided with her family, following a one-year battle with cancer.

Thalita was a prominent figure in regional sports journalism. After moving to Palmas in 2007, she worked for TV Anhanguera, where she edited and presented Globo Esporte Tocantins, and served as a commentator for CBN Tocantins. Her career also included work at TV Gazeta in Alagoas.

Beyond her media career, she was a founder of Espaço Junior – Centro Especializado em Autismo, an institution dedicated to supporting individuals with autism, named in honor of her 10-year-old son. The institution released a statement praising her strength and the positive attitude she maintained during her illness. At her request, no public wake will be held.
