Journalist Union reports average media earnings exceed 4,000 euros
A recent salary study by the Finnish Journalists' Union shows that total average earnings for union members across all media sectors have risen to 4,333 euros, a 3.8 percent increase over the last two years.
The most significant growth was observed in TV and film production companies, which saw a roughly 10 percent increase. Other notable rises occurred in production companies, Yleisradio, and press positions. However, earnings in commercial radio and television decreased by approximately 3.5 percent compared to 2024.
Petri Savolainen, the union's advocacy director, attributed the decline in the commercial sector to changes at MTV, the largest employer in that field. He noted that high-earning journalists have retired and been replaced by staff with lower salary levels. The study also found that the gender pay gap stands at 96 cents for every euro earned by men.
