Journalists' associations condemn threats against reporters in İzmir

Journalism organizations in İzmir, including the Aegean Journalists Federation (EGF) and the İzmir Journalists Association (İGC), have issued statements condemning alleged threats and insults directed at local reporters.

The controversy involves MHP İzmir Provincial Chairman Veysel Şahin, who is accused of calling reporter Gamze Eskiköy of Dijitalgaste.com to demand the removal of a news report regarding a public event. Reports also indicate that Şahin used a rude and insulting tone when speaking with the outlet's Editor-in-Chief, Ümit Özmen.

The EGF emphasized that no political official has the authority to demand the removal of news or use pressure to halt professional activities, calling such actions an interference with the public's right to information. Both organizations have called on Şahin to issue a public apology to the journalists involved.
