Journalists face rising attacks during AfD campaign in Saxony-Anhalt
The German Journalists' Union (dju) within the Verdi union has reported a significant increase in attacks and harassment against media professionals during AfD election campaigning in Saxony-Anhalt.
Since May, more than 30 incidents have been documented, affecting at least 43 journalists, television teams, and political influencers. The reported harassment includes verbal defamation, obstruction of work, stalking, doxing, and five instances of physical assault. Notably, 25 of these incidents occurred within the last three weeks.
According to the dju, many of these escalations involve right-wing or far-right streamers and media activists operating around AfD events. Affected media outlets include RTS, SRF, CBC News, ProSieben, RBB, WDR, MDR, and Politico. Lucas Munzke, a Verdi representative, stated that the AfD is a media-hostile party that actively hinders independent reporting.
