Journalists in Sinaloa recognized for crime and security reporting

The International Commission for Human Rights for Gender Equality held an event in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, to recognize journalists, activists, and human rights defenders for their work in security and crime reporting.

Among those honored were Gabriel Ruiz and Kelvin Zamudio of Línea Directa for their daily coverage of police matters in northern Sinaloa. The commission also issued a posthumous recognition to journalist José Luis Romero.

José ‘El Pepe’ Mendoza, a reporter for Noticiero Altavoz and host of ‘La Torreta’, was also recognized for his extensive career in crime and security journalism. Mendoza stated that the award serves as an incentive to continue working in favor of society, truth, and human rights. Yolanda González, president of the Commission, highlighted the high-risk nature of the profession, noting the bravery required to report the truth in current conditions.
