Jovan Donev, prominent Macedonian diplomat and professor, dies at 71
Jovan Donev, a prominent Macedonian university professor, diplomat, and political analyst, has passed away in Skopje at the age of 71.
Donev held a distinguished academic career, serving as a scientific advisor and professor at the Institute of National History in Skopje. He also taught at the American College in Skopje and the ‘Justinian I’ Faculty of Law. His leadership roles included serving as the executive director of the Euro-Balkan Institute for Social and Humanistic Research from 1999 to 2012 and directing the Ohrid Summer University.
In the diplomatic sphere, Donev served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to the United Kingdom from 2013 to 2017, while also being accredited to Ireland and Iceland. In 2017, he was a member of the Security Council of the Republic of Macedonia. He was a widely recognized researcher of Macedonian history, international relations, and Balkan geopolitics, and was an active political columnist in his later years.
