Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Gymnasium faces crisis amid protests

The Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Gymnasium in Novi Sad is facing a severe crisis involving teacher dismissals, student protests, and parent demonstrations. The Union of Syndicates of Educational Workers of Serbia (USPRS) has called for urgent inspection to investigate the legality of decisions regarding employment terminations and the refusal to renew contracts, alleging potential discrimination and retaliation against union members.

Students have engaged in protests, including confrontations with the school director, Radivoje P. Stojković. Reports indicate that students have demanded the reinstatement of teachers and have protested against the director's management. Some parents have also joined the demonstrations, expressing concern over the disruption of classes and the school's stability. The director has reportedly told parents that if they do not accept his decisions, they should withdraw their children from the school.

Political groups, including the Movement of Free Citizens (PSG), have criticized the state and educational institutions for failing to enforce court rulings that mandate the return of previously suspended teachers. They argue that the institutional silence is contributing to a climate of fear and uncertainty, leaving students as hostages to administrative and political conflicts.
