Jovem Pan issues right of reply for Fernando Haddad after false claims

The Brazilian broadcaster Jovem Pan aired a right of reply for Fernando Haddad after the program ‘Quem Tem Razão’ broadcasted false information regarding the politician and his wife, Ana Estela Haddad.

On August 14, the program attributed a fabricated quote to Haddad stating, ‘My wife will sleep with the next governor of São Paulo.’ Haddad’s legal team intervened, clarifying that the statement was never made and noting that the falsehood has been circulating since the 2018 presidential campaign and has been previously debunked by fact-checking agencies.

In response to the legal interpellation, Jovem Pan aired the right of reply and issued a statement on Instagram admitting the program presented ‘wrong information.’ The broadcaster stated it does not endorse personal attacks and expressed regret over the episode, while Haddad’s legal team criticized the outlet for failing to perform basic journalistic checks and for the misogynistic nature of the comments directed at his wife.
