Joves pel Valencià demands more Valencian-language classes at UV

The youth organization Joves pel Valencià has launched a social media campaign titled ‘A la UV… en valencià!’ to protest the perceived marginalization of the Valencian language at the University of Valencia (UV).

According to the group, the university is failing to meet its own linguistic commitments. For the 2025-2026 academic year, Valencian-language instruction accounts for 40.65% of undergraduate offerings, compared to 47.46% in Spanish. The disparity is more pronounced in master's programs, where Valencian represents only 3% of teaching compared to 86.6% for Spanish. The organization is demanding that the university reach its target of at least 50% Valencian-language instruction by the 2026-2027 academic year.

This demand follows a student-led initiative in the History department that gathered nearly one hundred signatures from students and professors requesting increased use of the language in teaching, materials, and activities.
