Joy-Lance Mickels prepares for Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund

Joy-Lance Mickels, a 32-year-old striker with German and Rwandan citizenship, is set to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League with his club, FK Sabah. Born in Siegburg, Mickels experienced a late-career surge after playing for various lower-tier German clubs, including Borussia Mönchengladbach II, Schalke 04 II, and Alemannia Aachen.

Currently playing in Azerbaijan, Mickels has become a prominent figure for FK Sabah, a club founded only in 2017. Following a recent Champions League victory and goal against Slavia Prague, he is preparing for the upcoming match in Baku against the German side.

In addition to his club success, Mickels has achieved international recognition playing for the Rwanda national team alongside his two brothers. He noted that his career trajectory has been unexpected, moving from the German amateur leagues to competing at the highest level of European football.
