Joyalukkas Jewellery sets two Guinness World Records in Dubai
Joyalukkas Jewellery has secured two Guinness World Records in Dubai for creating the world’s heaviest and largest pair of gold earrings. The handcrafted 22-carat gold jhumkas, named ‘Mayura Sahasra’ (meaning ‘A Thousand Peacocks’), weigh a combined 16.514 kilograms.
The monumental piece measures 1.215 metres in length and 0.682 metres in diameter. The creation was the result of 5,840 hours of labor by 55 skilled artisans over several months. The design draws inspiration from the peacock, a symbol of grace in Indian culture, and incorporates traditional South Asian bell-shaped jhumka aesthetics.
UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri officially unveiled the earrings on October 24 at the Jewel of Joy showroom in the Dubai Gold District. Joy Alukkas, chairman of the Joyalukkas Group, stated the piece serves as a tribute to Dubai’s growth and the artisans involved. The earrings are not for sale and will remain on permanent public display at the showroom.
