Beatty described the Kennedy Center as a “living memorial” dedicated to an assassinated president and warned that attempts to alter or demolish the building could result in significant public backlash. She noted that many citizens have already expressed concern through letters and legal challenges, suggesting that the controversy could have a “backfiring effect” on political leaders if they fail to defend the institution’s historical and cultural significance.
