Jozef Tokár elected chairman of Jednota dôchodcov Slovenska

Jozef Tokár has been elected as the new chairman of Jednota dôchodcov Slovenska (JDS), Slovakia's largest senior organization. The decision was made by delegates during the organization's 13th congress held in Žilina.

Tokár succeeds Michal Kotian, who chose not to run for another term. Alongside the new chairman, Emil Machyna, Eva Arvayová, Miroslav Tulák, and Marta Eckhardtová were elected as vice-presidents.

Tokár's primary objectives include improving the internal organizational functioning of JDS and fostering closer cooperation with ministries and local governments. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the social standing of seniors and promoting intergenerational cooperation in sectors such as culture and sports to bridge the gap between young and old citizens.

During the congress, Slovak Minister of Labor, Social Affairs and Family, Erik Tomáš, addressed the assembly. He acknowledged the importance of JDS in representing senior interests and expressed interest in continued cooperation. The Minister also touched upon topics such as the 13th pension, pension recalculations, social services, and support for senior convalescent stays.
