Jozy Altidore analyzes Leagues Cup favorites and USMNT performance

Former USMNT striker Jozy Altidore has shared his perspectives on the current state of North American soccer, specifically regarding the Leagues Cup and the performance of the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT).

Regarding the Leagues Cup, Altidore highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership between Liga MX and Major League Soccer (MLS). He identified Club América and Chicago Fire as the tournament favorites, noting their strong momentum heading into the quarter-finals.

Discussing the USMNT, Altidore expressed strong support for head coach Mauricio Pochettino, despite recent challenges. However, he characterized the team’s exit from the World Cup in the Round of 16 as a “fracaso” (failure), citing the manner of their 4-1 loss to Belgium as a disappointing outcome for a squad capable of more. He emphasized that long-term success requires structural growth within US Soccer, starting from the youth levels.
