Bitcoin could outperform gold as ETF demand shifts, JPMorgan analysts suggest
Financial analysts and institutions are highlighting a potential shift in the digital asset market, with JPMorgan suggesting that Bitcoin could outperform gold if institutional hedging via ETFs decreases. While gold ETFs have fully recovered from early 2026 outflows, Bitcoin ETFs have only recovered about half, suggesting more room for potential demand growth.
Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas predicts that Bitcoin ETFs could eventually triple the assets under management of gold ETFs as younger generations accumulate wealth. Long-term bullish sentiment remains, with Ric Edelman comparing the current Bitcoin stage to Amazon in 1999 and forecasting a price of at least $500,000 by 2030. Other industry figures have suggested Bitcoin could reach $1.5 million if its market cap equals that of gold.
Recent market activity shows renewed interest in crypto ETFs. On September 18, U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $29.4 million in net inflows, led by Fidelity. Bitcoin ETFs also saw a rebound, with Fidelity’s FBTC recording significant daily inflows. Additionally, Morgan Stanley’s MSBT Bitcoin ETF has seen 20 consecutive days of continuous buying, totaling $51.5 million in acquisitions.
