JPMorgan Chase projected to be first bank to reach $1 trillion market cap
Wells Fargo analyst Mike Mayo projects that JPMorgan Chase is positioned to become the first bank to reach a market capitalization of $1 trillion. As of August 14, the bank's market value stood at approximately $965 billion, meaning a rise of roughly 3.5% would allow it to cross the trillion-dollar threshold.
Mayo has maintained an 'Overweight' rating and increased the price target for JPMorgan shares from $375 to $390. This projection follows a strong second-quarter performance where the bank reported a record net profit of $21.1 billion, a 41% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, equity trading revenue surged by 86% to reach $6 billion, driven by activity in mergers, acquisitions, and new share issuances.
Looking further ahead, Mayo suggests the bank could reach a $2 trillion market cap within seven to eight years through a 'flywheel effect.' This model involves reinvesting high earnings into technology, physical branches, and international expansion to drive further growth. However, the analyst noted that long-term success remains dependent on earnings per share growth and potential regulatory risks.
