JPMorgan Chase restricts AI agent access and reduces Volta credit exposure

JPMorgan Chase is implementing restrictions on external AI agents to prevent them from accessing customer accounts or executing transactions. CEO Jamie Dimon stated that allowing third-party AI systems to operate autonomously within the bank’s ecosystem poses significant risks to both customers and the institution, citing concerns over cybersecurity and the potential for ‘rogue’ agents.

Instead of third-party access, the bank is developing its own proprietary AI solutions. While the bank may allow limited, read-only access to certain information like account balances, it will block external agents from using customer credentials to log in and act on their behalf.

Separately, JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs are reducing their exposure to a $5 billion AI-related credit package involving the startup Volta. The banks are adjusting their risk models for the credit sale, signaling a shift toward more stringent assessments of AI-driven growth companies and the potential risks associated with AI-supported financial modeling.
