JPP appoints Duarte Vieira to represent Madeiran community in Jersey
The JPP political party has appointed Duarte Vieira, a specialist nurse living in Jersey, to represent the party among the Madeiran community on the island. The community in Jersey is estimated to consist of approximately 12,000 Madeirans who maintain close ties with the Madeira region, particularly Funchal.
During a visit to Jersey, JPP Secretary-General Élvio Sousa noted that the trip was productive for exploring political and economic solutions for Madeira. The party highlighted the importance of maritime connections, suggesting that implementing regular ferry services in Madeira, similar to those in Jersey, could improve product supply and economic competition.
Additionally, the party discussed the challenges of labor mobility following Brexit and emphasized the need for a political vision that integrates the Madeiran diaspora into the region's social and economic priorities.
