JPP deputy criticizes regional government over teacher shortages

Miguel Ganança, a deputy from the JPP, has criticized the Regional Government and the PSD/CDS parties regarding a structural shortage of teachers. Ganança holds Regional Secretary of Education Elsa Fernandes responsible for failing to address the aging teaching workforce and the difficulties in replacing retiring staff.

The deputy noted that while Fernandes had previously assured there was no shortage of teachers, she has since acknowledged structural difficulties. Ganança also accused the PSD and CDS of voting against JPP proposals intended to correct career injustices for teachers in 2025 and 2026, arguing that the delay in addressing these issues is now negatively impacting schools, teachers, and students.
