JPYC stablecoin raises $38 million in Series B extension
Tokyo‑based JPYC Inc., Japan’s first licensed yen‑backed stablecoin, completed an extended Series B financing that brought total proceeds to about 6 billion yen (roughly $38 million). The round added a new 1 billion‑yen investment from logistics group AZ‑COM Maruwa Holdings, joining earlier backers such as Metaplanet Ventures, NCB Venture Capital, Sumitomo Life and other corporate investors.
The funding will be used to broaden JPYC’s payment network and Web3 financial services, including a pilot with convenience‑store operator Lawson. AZ‑COM Maruwa plans to employ JPYC to settle fees and salaries for roughly 2,300 business partners and contractors, aiming for faster, lower‑cost payments and to help mitigate driver shortages caused by Japan’s aging workforce and tighter overtime rules.
