JR lines in Japan to resume service following typhoon and bear collision incidents
Service is set to resume on two separate JR lines in Japan following recent disruptions.
On the JR Uchibo Line, operations between Anegasaki and Nagaura are scheduled to restart on November 9. The line had been suspended due to heavy rain and sediment inflow caused by Typhoon 25 in September. While initial estimates suggested repairs would take at least three months, the timeline has been moved forward by over a month and a half. This restoration includes the resumption of all Sazanami limited express trains.
Separately, JR Hokkaido announced that service on the Soya Line between Otoineppu and Wakkanai will resume on November 4. This follows an incident on October 30 where a limited express Sarobetsu train collided with a brown bear, causing the lead car to derail. While most services will return, two specific trains are scheduled to be cancelled on the first day of resumption due to operational requirements.
