Jürgen Täuber, Bundesliga player and Schalke alumnus, dies at 71

Former professional footballer Jürgen Täuber has passed away at the age of 71 following a long illness. He died in Parsdorf, Bavaria, due to an aortic thrombosis.

Täuber was a notable figure in German football, recognized as part of the only trio of brothers to have played in the Bundesliga: himself, Klaus Täuber, and Stephan Täuber. All three brothers wore the jersey of FC Schalke 04 during their careers. Klaus Täuber, who passed away in 2023, was famously known for scoring the decisive penalty in Bayer Leverkusen’s 1988 UEFA Cup final.

During his career, Jürgen Täuber played for several clubs, including 1. FC Nürnberg, where he helped the team achieve promotion to the Bundesliga. He also had a loan spell at FC Schalke 04 during the 1980/81 season, appearing in 17 Bundesliga matches. His professional career included 140 Bundesliga appearances and various stints in the second division and regional leagues with clubs such as TSV 1860 München and FC Bamberg.
