Júri Nacional de Exames proposes contracted pool for exam graders
The National Jury of Exams (JNE) has proposed the creation of a contracted pool of teachers to ensure the grading of national secondary school exams. This recommendation was made in a report regarding the digital grading process, which has been forwarded to the Assembly of the Republic by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation.
The report follows the first year in which national exams were graded digitally. This transition encountered unexpected technical vulnerabilities and failures, particularly during the first phase, which resulted in delays in releasing student grades.
To prepare for the 2026/2027 academic year, the JNE identified five critical areas for improvement: technical robustness of platforms, system integration, operational communication with schools and families, participant training, and the establishment of a stable, contracted workforce of graders. The proposal aims to address previous inefficiencies in teacher allocation and recruitment difficulties.
