JR’s La Caverne du Pont Neuf attracts 6.4 million visitors in Paris
French artist JR’s large-scale public art installation, ‘La Caverne du Pont Neuf’, drew an estimated 6.4 million visitors to Paris between May 20 and June 28, 2026. The project transformed the Pont Neuf bridge into a walkable, photographic grotto using large-format photo prints to create a trompe-l'oeil illusion.
According to Paris tourism office data, the installation’s daily average of 41,154 visitors surpassed the average daily attendance of the Louvre during the same period. The project’s popularity persisted despite 21 days of intense heat in the city. The installation also coincided with an exhibition at Galerie Perrotin titled ‘Les Esquisses de la Caverne’, which showcased the artist's sketches and models.
The project contributed to a rise in international tourism for Paris during its opening period, with notable increases in visitors from Argentina, Canada, and the United States.
