IndiGo reports narrowed Q2 loss amid rising fuel costs
InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 1,879 crore for the July-September quarter of fiscal 2027. While the loss decreased from Rs 2,582 crore in the same period last year, the airline faced significant financial pressure from a 67.2% surge in fuel expenses and the depreciation of the rupee.
Revenue from operations grew by approximately 24% to Rs 23,364 crore, supported by resilient passenger demand. Despite the revenue growth, CEO Willie Walsh stated that the airline has “no choice” but to consider increasing airfares to offset soaring jet fuel prices and geopolitical uncertainties. The airline has already implemented fuel surcharges on domestic and international routes.
To optimize operating costs, IndiGo has ceased wet-leased widebody operations on international routes as of late October. The company remains focused on managing near-term cost challenges while maintaining its low-fare model to support long-term growth in the Indian aviation market.
