JSW Steel receives legal relief in Odisha High Court rulings
The Odisha High Court has provided significant legal relief to JSW Steel regarding two major financial demands related to its Jajang iron ore mine.
In the first ruling, the court quashed a demand of Rs 696.32 crore issued by the Joint Director of Mines, Joda. This demand was linked to an alleged shortfall in mineral dispatch during the first year of the Mine Development and Production Agreement, covering the period from June 2020 to June 2021.
In a separate matter, the High Court set aside a demand of Rs 1,472.69 crore issued by the Deputy Director of Mines, Joda, concerning dispatch shortfalls during the fifth year of the agreement (June 2024 to June 2025). Instead of canceling this demand entirely, the court remitted the matter to the mining authorities for fresh consideration and reassessment in accordance with established legal positions.
