JSW Steel workers in Piombino plan 24-hour strike for November 5
Labor unions Fim, Fiom, and Uilm have rescheduled a 24-hour strike at the JSW steel plant in Piombino to November 5. The protest was originally planned for November 3 but was moved to coincide with a meeting at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy regarding the future of the local steel industry.
Union representatives and factory councils from JSW, GSI, and Piombino Logistics are seeking concrete commitments regarding investment timelines and job security. Key points of contention include the renewal of rail production, the Metinvest project, and the need for a clear industrial plan to ensure the plant's future.
The decision to reschedule follows a call for a ministerial meeting to monitor and revise the framework agreement for Piombino. Meanwhile, the Camping CIG coordination group has criticized the decision to move the strike, calling the shift in strategy irresponsible and urging for more radical measures such as the nationalization of the plant.
