Juan Ayuso assesses injuries after crash at Grand Prix de Québec

Spanish cyclist Juan Ayuso is undergoing medical evaluation following a heavy crash during the closing meters of the Grand Prix de Québec. The incident occurred during a group sprint, resulting in Ayuso having to complete the race on foot.

Lidl-Trek performance manager Josu Larrazabal stated that the team is exercising caution, noting that the full extent of the injuries may not be clear for at least 48 hours due to potential inflammation. Ayuso is reportedly experiencing discomfort in his rib area, specifically where his radio device was positioned during the impact, which causes pain when breathing deeply.

Despite the injury, Ayuso intends to compete in the upcoming race in Montréal to test his physical condition. However, his participation in the World Championships in Montréal, scheduled for September 27, remains uncertain and will depend on his recovery progress.

Regarding the cause of the crash, Lidl-Trek has defended French rider Paul Seixas, stating that video evidence does not clearly show a collision between handlebars that would assign fault to him.
