Juan Benítez Suárez warns of increasing wildfire virulence

Pilot Juan Benítez Suárez, who has worked in wildfire extinction since 2017, warns that forest fires are becoming increasingly virulent due to a lack of resources and necessary cleaning efforts.

Suárez, who previously worked in the construction sector, now serves as a pilot for aerial resource coordination aircraft. His role involves flying approximately 1,000 meters above other aircraft to coordinate movements and utilizing standard and infrared cameras to transmit real-time imagery.

Having worked with Infoca in Spain and spent two winters fighting larger fires in Chile, Suárez emphasizes the importance of safety margins and the technical complexities of managing large-scale fire fronts.
