Juan Carlos I abandons legal battle against Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein
Former Spanish King Juan Carlos I has decided to abandon legal proceedings against his former partner, Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein. This decision marks a significant turn in a long-standing and bitter dispute between the two.
Previously, the former monarch had been preparing a lawsuit in London to seek the return of 65 million euros transferred to Larsen in 2012, as well as additional damages for alleged crimes against honor and fraud. However, the legal action will not be formalized. The decision to withdraw is attributed to a combination of legal challenges—including the difficulty of overturning an irrevocable donation signed by the King himself—and various political and diplomatic pressures.
This development follows a period of intense conflict, including a 2023 UK court ruling that dismissed a lawsuit filed by Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein against the former King. In his recent memoirs, Juan Carlos expressed regret regarding their past relationship, describing it as a mistake.
