Juan Carlos Ramos warns of diving risks after spinal injury

Juan Carlos Ramos, a 50-year-old resident of Cambre, is sharing his experience to raise awareness about the dangers of diving into shallow water. In July 2020, Ramos suffered a spinal cord injury after diving into a portable pool approximately 1.20 meters deep during a family celebration.

The accident resulted in paraplegia, leaving him without mobility from the chest down. Ramos, who works with the Association of People with Spinal Cord Injury and other Physical Disabilities (Aspaym) in A Coruña, uses his story to warn others about the risks of reckless jumps in water.

In Spain, approximately 60 new cases of spinal cord injuries caused by such accidents are recorded annually, many of which affect young people.
