Juan Carrillo claims Alianza Lima paid $20,000 to avoid relegation

Former footballer Juan ‘Drogba’ Carrillo has alleged that Alianza Lima paid Sport Áncash $20,000 to help the club avoid relegation during the 2008 Clausura tournament in Peru.

Carrillo, who played for Sport Áncash at the time, scored a decisive late goal against Atlético Minero that secured a victory for his team. This result prevented Alianza Lima from dropping to the second division. According to Carrillo, the $20,000 was distributed among the Sport Áncash squad, of which he personally received between $700 and $800.

In recent interviews, Carrillo noted that while he has encountered incentives to win or lose throughout his career, he has not accepted bribes. He also commented that bribery is a persistent issue within Peruvian football.
