Juan Daniel Oviedo responds to Colombian Ministry of Education on sexual education
Former vice-presidential candidate Juan Daniel Oviedo has responded to statements made by Education Minister Viviana Morales regarding the review of school materials and alleged ideological bias in sexual education content.
Oviedo supported the participation of families in reviewing educational materials but urged that the debate avoid ideological confrontation. He emphasized that current laws, including Law 115 of 1994 and Constitutional Court Ruling T-529 of 2024, mandate comprehensive, non-discriminatory, and evidence-based sexual and reproductive rights education.
Oviedo argued that while the government may seek to modify these provisions through constitutional mechanisms, existing regulations must be respected. He stated that education should not be framed as a left-versus-right issue, but rather centered on the Constitution, evidence, and student protection.
