Juan del Val condemns chants insulting Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez

Prize‑winning writer Juan del Val posted an Instagram video while on vacation to denounce the growing habit of shouting "Pedro Sánchez, hijo de puta" at public events such as bullfights, football stadiums and concerts. He described the chants as "enormously damaging" to democratic coexistence and called them a "enormous catetada". Del Val stressed that political criticism is legitimate – he called Sánchez "the worst president of the democracy" – but that insults in a collective chorus are unacceptable. He urged citizens to express dissent through the ballot, saying "If you don’t like Sánchez, vote for another option" and affirmed that the president remains a legitimate office holder. The writer’s remarks aim to curb the normalization of disrespectful slogans and promote respectful political discourse in Spain.
