Juan Fernando Quintero delays River return, cites conflict with coach Coudet
Colombian midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero has extended his absence from River Plate after the 2026 World Cup, obtaining a license until 30 July to address personal matters in Medellín. He told ESPN that he “does not speak with Eduardo Coudet since I left” and emphasized that “if I were a priority, he would call me and I would be there in two days.”
Quintero reiterated his respect for the club and its fans, stating “I am looking for the best situation for me and for River,” while also noting that the board has granted him additional days off. River Plate’s management indicated willingness to consider transfer offers, reportedly around US$3 million, with interest from leagues in the United States and Europe, including MLS and a Serie A club.
The player’s limited playing time under Coudet – 12 appearances, three starts and only one full‑match – has fueled speculation about a possible departure.
