South American football adopts new officiating technologies and appointments

Chilean football is undergoing technological updates. The ANFP has unanimously approved the implementation of VAR in the Liga de Ascenso Caixun, starting in the second round of the championship. Additionally, for the upcoming Superclásico between Universidad de Chile and Colo Colo, the goal-line technology will be debuted to assist officials in determining if the ball has crossed the line.

In South American continental competition, CONMEBOL has designated Uruguayan referee Esteban Ostojich to officiate the Copa Sudamericana return match between River Plate and Independiente Santa Fe. The decision has sparked controversy in Argentina, as River Plate holds a poor historical record under Ostojich, having secured only one victory in seven international matches overseen by him.
