Juan Grabois accuses Javier Milei of religious persecution

During a meeting of the Foreign Relations and Cult Commission in the lower house, National Deputy Juan Grabois of Unión por la Patria accused President Javier Milei of “religious persecution.” Grabois argued that the administration’s rhetoric against social justice and its stance on absolute private property contradicts Catholic social doctrine.

Grabois specifically referenced Milei’s previous comments regarding Pope Francis, suggesting the President’s economic and philosophical views imply that followers of certain religious principles are being cast toward “hell.” He expressed hope that the announced visit of Pope Leo XIV to Argentina would address these issues of “dehumanization.”

Santiago Santurio, a legislator from La Libertad Avanza, responded by criticizing the opposition’s ideological consistency. Santurio noted that members of the Kirchnerist movement previously labeled those defending the sanctity of life as “anti-rights,” and asserted that while he is a Catholic, he does not practice “Catholic politics.”
