Journalists Jesús Gallegos and Juan Guillermo Ríos pass away

Prominent journalists Jesús “Chucho” Gallegos Rosales and Juan Guillermo Ríos have passed away, marking the loss of two influential figures in Latin American media.

In Mexico, Jesús Gallegos Rosales died at age 84 following health complications, including a bacterial infection and internal hemorrhages. A pioneer of entertainment journalism, Gallegos founded the influential magazine TVyNovelas in 1979 and established the TVyNovelas Awards. His career spanned over six decades, with roles at El Sol de México, Tele-Guía, and Diario Basta! He was known for his extensive network of contacts within the Mexican film, television, and music industries.

In Colombia, Juan Guillermo Ríos died in Medellín at age 75. A major figure in national radio and television, particularly during the 1980s, Ríos was best known for directing and presenting the Noticiero de las 7, which commanded significant portions of the country's television audience. His career included work with Caracol Radio, RCN Radio, and El Tiempo. He was also a university professor and communications advisor, remembered for his signature sign-off, “paz, amor y buen genio.”
